Editing the sequence
There are several different ways to edit a sequence selection:
- Right-click on the selection and choose Edit Selection (
).
A dialog appears displaying the sequence. You can add, remove, or change the text and then click on OK. The original selected part of the sequence is now replaced by the sequence entered in the dialog.
If you wish to correct only one residue, this is possible by simply making the selection cover only one residue and then type the new residue.
- Right-click on the selection and choose Delete Selection (
).
- Copying (Ctrl + C,
+ C on Mac) and pasting (Ctrl + V,
+ V on Mac).
If you copied a selection from the same or another sequence, then pasting will replace the current selection with the copied selection. To insert a copied selection without replacing any existing sequence, make a zero-length selection between the positions and then paste.
Note that pasting also adds quality scores and any annotations overlapping the copied selection (see details below).
- Insert a restriction site.
Note! When editing annotated sequences, the annotation position is automatically updated.
Copying and pasting sequences with annotations
When copying and pasting selections on annotated sequences, the annotations will also be copied. If the copied selection does not cover the entire annotation, the pasted annotation will be torn and displayed with a waved end (figure 15.17).
Pasting occurs in two steps:
- First, the selection, including any annotations (or parts of annotations), is deleted.
- Second, the copied selection, including any annotations (or parts of annotations), is inserted
