Table view of sequences
Sequence attributes are listed in the Table view (
) of sequences (figure 14.3). This includes information like the name, description, length, etc. as well as any other attributes for that element, such as those added using Update Sequence Attributes, or custom attributes for that location (see customized attributes on data locations).
Standard functionality for working with tables applies.
Figure 14.3: Table view of a sequence. Right-click to display a menu with actions. This menu differs slightly depending on which column you click on.
The following actions can be taken on attributes in the Table view of a sequence (figure 14.3):
- Add attributes. Attributes (i.e., columns in the Table view) can be added manually using the right-click menu option Add Attributes..., which is good for simple changes. You are prompted for an attribute name and a single value. A new column is added to the table with the name you provide. This option can also be used to edit contents of an existing column, if desired.
The Update Sequence Attributes tool supports more extensive attribute update work, including importing from external sources, such as Excel and CSV format files. This tool can be accessed directly from the Table view by clicking on the "Add Attributes" button at the bottom of the view.
- Edit attributes. Right-click in the cell you wish to edit and then update the contents of that cell. For example, if you right-click on a cell in the "Description" column, an option called "Edit Description..." will be available in the menu presented (figure 14.3).
Values calculated from the sequence itself, such as the length of each sequence (shown in the "Size" column) or the first 50 residues in the sequence (shown in the "Start of sequence" column) cannot be edited.
